Some starters returning to banged-up Ohio State defence

Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa will not return to the Buckeyes this season. "Know this was a tough decision, but made the right one". However, Bosa's parents indicated their son would be out until at least November so that his injury could be reevaluated and his next step (i.e. whether to return to the field or focus on the upcoming draft) could be discussed. He had surgery five days later, and no timetable was set for his return to the team.

Ohio State issued a release on Tuesday after the news came out of Bosa's decision.

John Bosa said he and Nick were on their way to Philadelphia on Tuesday to get a recovery assessment from the surgeon who made the fix, Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute. The All-American will now presumably turn his attention to the 2019 National Football League draft. The defense historically tightens up in the second half under Urban Meyer after he and his coaching staff make their halftime adjustments. His father, John Bosa, was a first-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins in 1987.

His brother, Joey Bosa, also played football at Ohio State and became the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. Despite apparently being informed of the decision on Sunday, Meyer said during his Monday press conference that he was "hoping" they would get Bosa back.

In three games this season, Bosa had six tackles, four sacks and caused two fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown and the other which was returned for a touchdown by a teammate. "He is a first-class young man who we have been honored to coach". He was the Big 10 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2017.

Meyer said freshmen Tyreke Smith and Tyler Friday have shown continued improvement and likely will figure more into the rotation as the season progresses.
