Mr. Link, of course. Like everything LAIKA creates, the animation is consistently hypnotizing: the textures, fluid movements, and wide variety of expressions all show the great craftsmanship the studio is known for.

Exhausted of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link (Zach Galifianakis) recruits fearless explorer and cryptologist Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. In the voice cast you'll find the likes of Hugh Jackman as Mr. Frost, Zach Galifianakis as Mr. Link, and Zoe Saldana as Adelina Fortnight - another adventurer who joins the pair on their quest. Together, the trio encounters odd creatures, wondrous landscapes, eye-popping dangers, and plenty of peril before they discover the true meaning - and actual location - of family.

As sometimes happens, the U.S. trailer - also released today - gives a slightly different look at the film. There's more to stop motion than Ladislas Darevich, Jan Svankmajer and Tim Burton-as much as I love them.

LAIKA, the stop-motion animation studio that brought us Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline, and ParaNorman has just released the trailer for their newest feature: Missing Link.

Butler says the wanted to move stop-motion away from the darker themes that the general public associate with the technique. "In some ways, The Missing Link may be the most commercial movie that we've done, which all started with me saying, 'I want a stop-motion Indiana Jones'".

Bursting with humor, heart, and a profound message of acceptance and finding one's place, Missing Link is written and directed by Oscar nominee Chris Butler (ParaNorman). The feature also marks a first for LAIKA, as it's the first movie of the studio's to feature adult characters, and achieves something LAIKA president and CEO Travis Knight has said the studio has "never tried before" - making a "raucous comedy entwined with a swashbuckling epic" that underscores "the universal need to find belonging". "I think on paper there's no way this movie should have been made in stop-motion, but we did it anyway".

Missing Link is in theaters via Annapurna Pictures on April 12, 2019.

Missing Link also features the voices of Timothy Olyphant, David Williams, and Emma Thompson.
