P.J. Savoy scored 20 points, making five 3-pointers, and Trent Forrest added 13 points as No. 17 Florida State opened the season with an 81-60 victory over Florida on Tuesday.

Florida State shot 23 of 48 from the floor.

The Seminoles, who went 23-12 a year ago and reached the Elite Eight, returns its top three point scorers from last season in Phil Cofer (12.8 points per game), Terance Mann (12.6) and Braian Angola (12.5). "I just feel like playing here, playing in front of our fans, was something we were ready to do". "I'm a little bit shell-shocked to be honest with you. I think our entire football team needs me in other areas than where I was", Taggart told the Tallahassee Democrat. "Just not a very good performance by us, starting with me". Florida State could move up a few spots depending on how the first week of the season shakes out.

Florida State has won 32 of its last 34 home games. The Seminoles have been tough to beat at the Donald L. Tucker Center, with one of their two losses in 2017-18 coming to No. 1 Virginia on February 7. Chiozza set the school record for career assists (571) as a four-year point guard, while Koulechov finished second on the team averaging 13.8 points per game.

Also look out for freshman Andrew Nembhard, a five-star talent who is expected to take the majority of minutes at point guard. The Seminoles held UF to 37 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range. Hudson, who returned after initially considering entering the NBA Draft, led UF's scoring attack with an average of 15.5 points per game past year.

Taggart turned play-calling duties over to offensive coordinator Walt Bell ahead of Florida State's 47-28 loss to No. 22 NC State, a decision that didn't result in a win but did see an uptick in the Seminoles' offensive production.

The Gators look to pick up their first win when they play host to Charleston Southern on Friday.

The Seminoles play at Tulane on Sunday.
