Earlier Wednesday, Acosta had questioned Mr. Trump on his rhetoric on the caravan moving toward the US border. Video footage and photographs showed the intern grazing Acosta's arm in trying to pry the microphone away, and briefly making contact with the hand holding the microphone.

Reacting to Sanders' statement Wednesday, Acosta said: "This is a lie".

The White House announced the suspension of Acosta's hard press pass until further notice. When he arrived at the White House, he was turned away by the Secret Service.

Sanders said Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration.

The View held a rousing conversation on Thursday about the White House's decision to yank Jim Acosta's press credentials after his blow-up with President Donald Trump.

Acosta wasn't the only reporter with whom the president sparred. "To be honest. You aren't the best", he hit back.

What did the White House say?

"Well I'm not a big fan of yours either", Trump said. Acosta made a decision to ask Trump why he seemingly "demonized" the immigrants traveling to the American border at the moment.

During the conference he was questioned by CNN reporter about comments towards the incoming migrant caravan from Central America.

Miller reacted angrily, calling it "one of the most outrageous, insulting, ignorant and foolish thing you have ever said".

Mr Trump responded by saying "I think you should let me run the country, and you run CNN".

"Mr. President are you anxious about indictments coming down in this investigation?"

Republicans retain control of US Senate
Democrats won seats stretching from suburban Washington , New York and Philadelphia to outside Miami, Chicago and Denver. Heading into Election Day, Democrats were not expected to fare as well in the Senate as in the House of Representatives.

"When you report fake news, which CNN does a lot, you're the enemy of the people", the president told Acosta. "You are are a rude, awful person". You and I disagree on this, ' Trump said. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is terrible, and the way you treat other people is awful. However, as noted by Acosta and many others, the people travelling within the "caravan" are still hundreds of miles from the U.S. "You shouldn't treat people that way".

Alexander came to his colleague's defense. "I think ... we deserve that", he said. "He's a diligent reporter who busts his butt like the rest of us". He asked Trump why he has characterised it as an invasion.

The legal question, he said, may be whether a journalist has a First Amendment right of access to information or places closed to the public but open generally to press - and some lower courts have said yes.

Acosta repeatedly presses Sanders in her rare briefings to clarify quotes and policy from the president.

"That's enough. That's enough", Trump said.

Mr Trump pushed back aggressively, directing his criticism at the media, and particularly at CNN.

At a combative, lengthy news conference Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated himself for achieving what he termed a "tremendous success" in the previous day's midterm elections. He can also be a grandstander who seems to thrive on conflict with President Trump, and doesn't always know when to stop his aggressive questioning.

The reporter was Yamiche Alcindor of PBS Newshour, an African American reporter. She said that "on the campaign trail, you called yourself a nationalist". Some interrupted his remarks, pressed forward with unwelcome follow-up questions or shouted queries even though he had not called on them.

CNN news- Who is Jim Acosta?

"I'll tell you what". "It's a very awful thing you said to me".

Alcindor moved on to a different topic.

It also feeds the kind of anti-media controversy Trump loves to generate, and which benefits him politically.

On CNN, anchor Jake Tapper said that there was nothing racist about her question and that Trump's reaction was unfathomable.
