Amazon today unveiled a new Alexa for PCs app that will bring the digital assistant to a lot more Windows computers. The Alexa for PC app now doesn't enable "PC-specific controls" at the current time, meaning users can't now use Alexa to access specific Windows 10 features. If you don't live in one of these regions and really want to try it today, you'll need to change your country/region in your Amazon account settings to one of the supported countries, and Amazon says that the app will be coming to more locations in 2019. Once logged in, you can link Alexa on the PC with any other Echo smart speakers you might have, along with smart home devices.

It's not the first time we've seen Alexa functionality included on Windows, mind. Several notebooks have offered support for Amazon's assistant, with Lenovo, Acer, HP, and others taking advantage of the laptops' microphone arrays for far-field voice pickup.

The new app is part of an attempt to get PCs and Alexa to work better together.

George Burgess banned and misses England v New Zealand Test
Ex-Bradford Bulls forward Burgess, 26, has been hit with a Grade D charge of "behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game". I'm a tough boy, I'm an adult, I'm a man so I can take those kinds of things but what I can't take is a loss".

The PC app allows users to do numerous same things they can do with other Alexa-enabled devices, such as control smart-home devices, ask questions, play music, read the news, set timers and alarms and manage calendars. There's a dedicated page for music where you can control the music playback, and it even shows up within the main Alexa screen.

"Early next year, we'll be rolling out additional capabilities that allow customers to natively interact with the PC". The issue was tested by the folks at HTG who report that after testing the issue on multiple machines running Windows 10 April 2018 Update, they can confirm that every PC has this problem. "But you can make other applications, like IrfanView, VLC, or Google Chrome, your defaults".
