McConnell Warns New House Dem Majority Against 'Presidential Harassment'

Now that the exit polls are in, the picture is becoming more clear on why Democrats were able to win control of the House and how Republicans increased the majority in the Senate.

But party leaders said they need to be judicious about striking at Mr Trump - knowing their actions could energise an angry Republican base if they attack him indiscriminately.

Trump said, "In the House, Republicans dramatically outperformed historical precedents".

President Trump claimed some personal victories in the 2018 midterm results, and as he ticked them off at a press conference on Wednesday he might as well have been walking through the Electoral College map for 2020.

Trump demonstrated once again Tuesday night that when it comes to serving up red meat to the red states, he is an unparalleled talent who knows how to counterpunch.

As a candidate, she said, "we weren't trying to fit into a specific mold. Two can play that game!" the president wrote on Twitter on November 7. He has professed that he has no burning desire to run for president, but Clinton vetted him as a running mate and he could fit well with potential 2020 candidates such as California Sen.

"Thanks to Stacey Abrams, Andrew Gillum and Beto O'Rourke, places where Democrats have had trouble winning for years became unpredictable toss-ups in large part because of an electorate inspired by never-before-heard bold visions for economic and racial justice", Green said.

She added: 'It's what I anticipate, I expect and what I thrive on'.

"In a few months, what I would hope to see is legislation to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and get that legislation to the Senate", Sanders said, issuing a challenge to his Republican colleagues: "And let the Senate vote against that if they want". "If that happens, then we're going to do the same thing, and government would come to a halt, and we're going to blame them".

He also belittled the number of high-profile Democrats, including his predecessor Barack Obama, who crisscrossed the nation to support their candidates, while suggesting that he alone was responsible for the Republican triumphs. That sentiment was hyper-partisan with nine out of 10 respondents who identified as Democrats saying they disapproved of the president, while roughly as many Republicans said they approved of the president.

"They can play that game, but we can play it better".

Peters to Payton: Keep talking that (expletive)
Peters didn't elaborate on what Payton said on the sideline, but that delicious dinner date is a distinct possibility for January. They led 35-17, but only wound up winning 45-35 after a second half comeback by the Rams.

Hours earlier, the president had hailed a "big victory" in the midterm election and tweeted that "now we can all get back to work and get things done!"

Sanders, who plans to meet with House allies next week, will push for Democrats there to advance the first step of his "Medicare for all" bill's four-year phase-in plan, which would lower the eligibility age for Medicare to 55 from 65 and cover everyone under 18-years-old. Indeed, Pelosi arguably did "earn" the speakership by continuing to campaign for Democrats even as many in her party called for new leadership.

In the 100-member Senate, Republicans retained seats in the South, Midwest and West and ensured at least a 51-49 majority, equal to their current margin.

"In all fairness", Trump tweeted on November 7, "Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats".

Among other victories, Democrats flipped seats held most recently by retiring longtime GOP state Reps. But she has included among her pursuits the administration's financial deregulation efforts, housing issues, and financial ties between Trump and his family with Deutsche Bank AG and Russian Federation.

Democrats have had their eye on other Sun Belt states in recent presidential elections, namely Georgia, Arizona and Texas.

The entire House of Representatives votes for speaker in a roll call vote on the first day of the new Congress. At the Hilton DoubleTree Resort, music blared from the hall and smiles were etched on faces. Trump remains very popular in the region, spanning from the politically swing-voting Hamilton County eastward along a string of Ohio River counties that the president carried by more than 30 percentage points.

If Mr Trump ordered Mr Mnuchin not to release his tax returns, Democrats could file a lawsuit and the issue could ultimately end up before the Supreme Court. "That's a firewall", GOP volunteer James Murr said. DeWine not only won there, but Todd also points out that GOP Rep. Jim Renacci over-performed expectations by getting 47 percent in the Senate race against Democratic incumbent (and winner) Sherrod Brown, despite being vastly outspent and being seen as a problematic candidate.

The result was broadly in line with what many analysts projected but makes for a confusing picture.

The Republican president also clashed repeatedly with reporters at the White House, ordering them to be quiet.

"Those that worked with me in this incredible Midterm Election, embracing certain policies and principles, did very well. Those that did not, say goodbye!"
