Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was a little bit perplexed after his side's 4-3 defeat to Spartak Moscow in the Europa League tonight.

'You saw two sides of our performance. I'm disappointed with the result'.

Daniel Candeias scored a superb goal to restore Rangers' advantage but Connor Goldson knocked a Nikolai Rasskazov cross into his own net to level again.

Asked what upset him specifically about his defence Gerrard responded: 'We didn't do the basics well enough or clear our lines at the right times and we were not in the right positions.

"But I've got nothing more to say on it really".

Hanni then gave Spartak the lead for the first time, his 25-yard strike taking a wicked deflection off Goldson to deceive the unlucky McGregor.

The row, carried live on national TV networks, was followed by Trump issuing angry put-downs to several other reporters. Sessions was the first casualty of a cabinet shakeup that had been expected from Trump following the midterm elections.

Convinced the goal should have stood to give Rangers a two goal lead at half time Gerrard said: 'It was a big decision now and it's hard as a manager to answer and not say the wrong thing and get into big trouble.

The result may not be the end of the world in the grand scheme of things considering Rangers are only one point off the top of the group. "We should have had four goals, but that is another story, but we are bitterly disappointed with how we defended tonight". We had the chance to take three points here and make a big step to the Last 32.

'It's still wide open, ' said Gerrard. We need to move from here and return for the game on Sunday.

"I think we attacked very well and I thought we were very unsafe and countered very bravely and got our rewards for that to be in control of the game at half-time", Gerrard said.

Spartak interim head coach Raul Riancho dedicated his side's victory over Rangers to "my father, who recently passed away" and praised his players for having the "character" to come back from behind three times.
