Modric won the Champions League with Real Madrid before helping Croatia to their greatest ever World Cup performance as runners-up.

Teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe told AFP on Thursday that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain football's greatest players but that his own World Cup heroics could help crown him the 2018 Ballon d'Or victor.

He's not the only favourite, though, with world champions France having a few players in the mix.

Mbappe, 19, helped France to World Cup victory in Russian Federation as his four goals included one in the 4-2 final victory over Croatia as he became just the second teenager after Pele in 1958 to score in the championship match.

Ronaldo and Messi continue to dominate football at Juventus and Barcelona respectively, with both players in contention to win the Ballon d'Or award.

Sarkar Gets Dethroned By Thugs Of Hindostan At The Box Office?
The keenly anticipated film " Thugs of Hindostan " had its release a day after Diwali but it got the worst reviews of the year. As per reports in Box-Office India, it has managed to garner only Rs 28 cr (approx) on its second day at the ticket windows.

"I think a Ballon d'Or is based on highlights in the year".

"If I'm going to win it, I do not know, at least I put all the ingredients on my side to win it", said Mbappe, who has scored 15 times in 15 appearances for club and country this season.

"But if you take the player in the purest form, there's nobody better yet - this year they were again the best two". We are in a World Cup year so it's sure that the World Cup will weigh in. "We achieved something big".

With the last few months remaining in 2018, football fans will be eagerly waiting to learn the victor of the coveted Ballon d'Or. It would not be unjust because that is a strong word, but it would be a shame if a Frenchman does not win it.
