Agra: 12-day-old baby snatched and killed by monkey

The monkey snatched the baby from the mother and bit it on the face causing fatal injuries.

A MONKEY has snatched a 12-day-old Indian boy from his mother and killed him, police say.

The animal was said to have ran into the house and grabbed the baby by his neck. After a chase, the monkey left our son on a neighbor's roof, but it was too late. "We took him to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead".

However, their attempts to scare off the monkey came to nothing.

Stones were thrown at the monkey to enable it drop the baby, reports MIRROR UK.

"A group of monkeys entered the victim's house and one of the monkeys snatched the baby from his mother who was breastfeeding him, and ran away with the baby", said Ajay Kaushal, officer in charge of the Sikandra police station, on Wednesday.

"The victim's body has been sent for a post-mortem and will be handed over to the family soon", Sub-inspector Atbir Singh told The Times of India. Relevantly, two months ago, another toddler was attacked in the same colony by a monkey, however the victim survived and is now in hospital. However, they survived and are now recovering in hospital.

Monkey bites are the second most common attacks by animals in the South Asian country, after dogs.

In Central Delhi, government offices are surrounded by dozens of monkeys swinging from the trees or lounging in the sun on the sidewalk. According to the New Delhi government, 268 cases of monkey bites were recorded by authorities in the capital in 2016.
