The advert could inspire children and even adults to ask for a piano or other instrument for Christmas this year.

It opens with a wistful Elton John sitting at what purports to be his first piano, before he starts playing the opening bars to Your Song.

The story begins in present day and works backwards chronologically through Elton's life and musical career, leading to the moment he received the special present of his grandmother's piano that changed the course of his life.

Elton's famous hit "Your Song" is the song for this years ad which is also called "The Boy and The Piano". "I hope audiences will watch this and really enjoy the national treasure that is Elton John".

Fans of the new John Lewis ad included former MP and Strictly Come Dancing star Ed Balls, who said it was "totally brilliant", and TV presenter Susanna Reid who responded: "Absolutely love it".

SNL’s Kate McKinnon brutally mocks Laura Ingraham and her ‘feel facts’
Saturday Night Live opened up their latest show with another Fox News spoof with Kate McKinnon's Laura Ingraham front and center. Jeanine Pirro also hilariously accused Tyler Perry of pretending to be multiple people to vote a couple of times on Election Day.

The film, which launched in the United Kingdom today, starts out with a somewhat pensive, present day Elton John tapping a few notes on his piano. "I think emotionally he is thinking about the journey he's been on as an artist".

The two-minute advertisement ends with a young Elton unwrapping a piano for Christmas and playing his first notes in front of his proud parents before the words "some gifts are more than just a gift" appear on the screen.

Other moments include a pub gig as a teen, a school recital, all building up to when young Elton gets his first piano - a moment that is based on John's recollection of when he first played a piano at his grandmother's house.

Sir Elton is now preparing for his final the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.

I'm not crying, you are.
