Jay Gruden Says Redskins Considered Colin Kaepernick

The Redskins will opt, instead, to go back to Johnson, who worked out for the team at the time it signed Sanchez to serve as McCoy's backup. The Redskins are 6-6 and have lost four of their past five games. They're half a game back from the wild card spot, and a game back from the division title.

Still, his experience with Gruden factored into the decision.

He'll be on the field Sunday when Washington (6-6) hosts the New York Giants (4-8). But they're still alive in the playoff race, trailing Dallas by one game in the NFC East.

However, AAF co-founder Bill Polian told SiriusXM NFL Radio that Johnson was released Tuesday from his league contract so that he could sign with the Redskins.

The 32-year-old Sanchez hasn't won a regular-season start in nearly exactly four years. "Unfortunately there has, to this point, been nothing that the courts or the league has done about it and that's the disappointing part, because these good football players didn't commit a crime, he didn't put his hands on anybody, murder anybody, you know, do anything that's that insanely crazy that he deserves to be banned from our football league". I'm just kidding! C'mon, you can give it to me I can give it right back, c'mon now.

Now, the Redskins are once again on the market for a quarterback, needing someone to come in and backup Sanchez in case he too goes down. Sanchez being with [offensive coordinator Matt] Cavanaugh helped out a lot. "You work for something, you pray for something, and then it finally happens - you don't care what the circumstances are", Sanchez said.

The best of Mark Sanchez's first presser as starting QB

"I'm not following", he said.

For the Redskins, signing Kaepernick would make sense, if they truly felt that this season was salvageable, and were willing to do anything to try and save it. "I'm just kidding! I'm just kidding!"

Item number one on Sanchez's plate is learning the offense. The team had a short week before playing on Thanksgiving and Gruden wanted someone who could fit in as soon as possible.

"He's been talked about and discussed, but we'll probably go in a different direction".

There has been an exuberance of quarterback injuries this season, yet Kaepernick still is unsigned. On top of that, starting center Chase Roullier hasn't been able to practice due to a knee injury. Washington is currently operating with a gaping hole on the interior of its offensive line, one that's now three players wide. "We all run our routes differently and things like that". "So, let's get a veteran in here and teach him and that's kind of what we chose to do". "That's where our communication has to be pretty much throughout the week". "We are all involved in many, many plays and many, many games".

Eovaldi re-signing with Red Sox
That appears to be the case, judging by Price's gleeful reaction to reports saying Eovaldi had re-signed with the Red Sox on a four-year contract worth almost $70 million.
