It's not the easiest thing for a young team to do, turning negatives in to positives, but the Blue Devils beat in 90-69, Stetson 113-49 and Hartford 84-54 to move their record to 8-1 on the year. Coach K evolved his coaching system and revamped Duke as both a perennial contender and a one-and-done factory for the National Basketball Association. So good in fact, that they never have a rebuilding year. Blue Devils beat out UNC, Michigan St. for services of Vernon Carey Jr. So it was totally reasonable for some to wonder if his departure to become Pitt's head coach last March might cause Mike Krzyzewski's program to slip a little, or a lot, on the recruiting trail in his absence. His pledge gives the Blue Devils, for a seventh consecutive recruiting cycle, a commitment from a top-five prospect in the class.
