Pretoria Train Crash: Rescue Mission Underway For Passengers Still Trapped

"Numerous passengers were found either in the trains or found walking around on the scene".

Metrorail said more people are still believed to be trapped inside the two trains which collided in Mountain View, northeast of Pretoria, on Tuesday.

She said there are still people trapped under the train, and officials and emergency services are trying to reach them.

He said the emergency services' preliminary investigations revealed that one of the two trains was waiting for a signal to proceed when a secondary train came from behind and crashed into it.

Both trains were from Mabopane station and heading towards Pretoria station.

According to reports there were 800 people on board at the time of the crash.

Another 300 people were hurt, with 82 sustaining serious injuries.

Best Care Ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser confirmed that one patient who was critically injured was airlifted to hospital.
