The Harris County District Attorney's Office said it will decide later whether to pursue the death penalty against either Black or Woodruffe. Based on a tip provided by King, the police apprehended Eric Black and Larry Woodruffe and charged them with the murder.

The announcement of the new charge came the same day as Jazmine's funeral, where many mourners wore Jazmine's favorite color, purple, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Jazmine was shot the morning of December 30 as she sat in the back seat of her mother's vehicle during a trip to Joe V's Smart Shop.

Authorities previously said that they believe Woodruffe was the person in an SUV who fired on Jazmine and her family as they drove to a store.

As for Cantrell, police said he was mistaken for a suspect after multiple witnesses spotted his red pickup truck fleeing the scene of the crime.

Woodruffe and Black are not believed to have meant to target Jazmine Barnes and her family and may have thought they were shooting at someone else, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has said.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he believes the family's initial description was honest and the man in the red truck was likely a bystander who left the scene of the shooting.

Woodruffe and Black were both taken into custody on Saturday. "Her mother and the girls never saw the shooter- they looked up and saw this red truck with a white man driving it, peeling off..." The suspect was apprehended after an anonymous tip passed along by journalist and activist Shaun King implicated two men identified as "LW" and "EB" in the shooting.

Black said the gun used in the shooting was at his home, the affidavit says.

Court records show Woodruffe has a long criminal record, including arrests for assault on a family member, drug possession and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jazmine died at the scene and her mother, LaPorsha Washington, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.

Hailey Cantrell says that despite the arrests of two suspects in the case, there have been non-stop threatening comments on her social media page regarding her uncle Robert Cantrell.

Jazmine was killed when a bullet struck her in the head, investigators said.

The heartbreaking murder of Jazmine captured the attention of the country, including community activists and celebrities, as the search for her killer went on for a week.

Shaquille O'Neal and Houston Senior Police Officer Kenneth Miles are covering the costs of her funeral.

More than 2,700 people donated to a GoFundMe set up for Jazmine's funeral expenses and family.
