Two of the dead were riding the bus; one was on the platform at Westboro station, a major stop on the city's busway, Watson said.

Three people were killed and 23 others injured when an Ottawa transit bus crashed into a shelter at the city's Westboro Station on Friday.

Brad Muir, a retired sergeant with the Ontario Provincial Police and a collision reconstruction consultant, told CTV News Channel that investigators will be downloading electronic data from the bus and reviewing eyewitness statements, road conditions and video camera surveillance.

It is believed that some of those injuries in the crash were critical.

The city's police chief Charles Bordeleau said the bus driver was arrested at the scene and taken in for questioning.

An investigation is ongoing. He saw first responders cutting out seats and windows from the top floor of the bus and described the front of the bus as being "essentially cut off" or "demolished".

Three minutes later, India again experienced the so-near-yet-so-far moment when Udanta Singh's shot ricochets off the bar. Few teams were able to cause UAE problems in their own backyard and India forced the hosts to alter their game.

On Friday, it became the site of a fatal crash by a double-decker OC Transpo bus, which hit a shelter as it was travelling the 269 route on its way to Bridlewood, which is located in the suburb of Kanata, and just under 20 kilometres away from the station.

"I want to send my deepest condolences to the families of victims and everyone affected by today's tragic bus crash", Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.

Watson also said that 23 people were injured in the collision, some very seriously, and taken to hospital. Bordeleau said the Ottawa Paramedic Service and Ottawa Fire Services worked the scene in partnership with the Ottawa Police. "And there was a bit of blood on the floor", he said.

He said he could tell there would be deaths given the devastation at the scene. "I can't see how they would've been able to get away from that", he said. "It's not a comfortable thing to witness and I can't imagine experiencing it".

In 2013, an Ottawa bus collided with a Via Rail train in suburban Barrhaven, killing six people.
