Microsoft Says Windows 7 Activation Bug Was Caused By Server Update

Windows 10 October 2018 Update received another cumulative update earlier this week as part of Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday cycle, and the company promised further fixes later in January.

If "Reset the PC" option under Settings Update & Security Recovery was a little tough to follow, Microsoft has made it simpler. This is because of the fact that you might have to install a particular update that is coming your way, an update that would make it necessary for you to look into deleting unnecessary files and cleaning up disk space so that the update has a place where it can be installed.

Even Microsoft was initially confused, before finally updating its known issues for the iffy update to insist that just because activation errors appeared to start happening just after the update was installed, it didn't mean that was the cause. "Windows and application scenarios may not work as expected if they need free space to function".

The KB971033 update, released last April, is a tweak to Windows' activation technologies.

"Woke up this morning to find a few thousand Windows 7 VDI machines reporting that Windows 7 wasn't genuine".

Phillies to hire Manny Machado's mentor from Baltimore
Multiple outlets are reporting the Phillies have hired Bobby Dickerson to be their infield coach. The meeting with Harper might serve as an artificial deadline of sorts for Machado.

"The timing of this issue coincides with the release of the January updates (KB4480960 and KB4480970) that were released on Tuesday, January 8, 2019". The new Windows 10 build 18312 which is now in preview, allows for just over 4000 FLS slots - that should do it.

Microsoft said at the time that the issue was due to a bug in its activation servers and affected a "limited number" of Windows 10 Pro users.

- Export your WSL distribution for simpler environment management - Use the "-export" option to export a distribution to a tar file. The reserved storage cannot be removed from the OS, but you can reduce the amount of space reserved. According to Microsoft, this affects users who are part of the local Administrators group.

So we should hear more on the latter soon enough, then, and hopefully Microsoft is now investigating these reports of other issues.
