It's possible the company chose to do so because the daily active user number went up year over year while the number of monthly users went down.

It expects capital expenditure of between $550 million and $600 million, well above analysts' average estimate of $415 million for 2019.

For the current quarter, Twitter said it expected total revenue to be between $715 million and $775 million.

Those higher costs could eat into Twitter's future earnings, some analysts said. Twitter reported a record-setting revenue of $909 million in the fourth quarter, a 24-percent increase compared to this time past year.

Monthly active users averaged 321 million, decreasing by 9 million from the same period a year earlier and down 5 million from the third quarter.

While the new figure reveals Twitter's lesser size in comparison with other social networks, the number of daily users continues to grow, with a 9 percent increase in daily active users compared with the same period a year ago.

I was out of the country and when I came back she told me about this. 'I don't care how good of an actor you are. A number of people took to Twitter to make it clear they want Neeson removed from Men in Black.

Twitter on Thursday said it would stop reporting monthly active users (MAUs) after Q1 2019 as it would switch to a new metric called monetisable daily active users (mDAUs) to reflect its audience moving forward.

Twitter says it has 126 million daily users. These are users who see ads on the platform and log in at least once a day. Thibault continued: "Higher operating expenses, on the other hand, are a bigger problem, as I anticipate Twitter's margins and profits to shrink considerably in 2019".

The short-messaging platform said it posted a $255 million profit in the final three months of 2018, compared with $91 million a year earlier, as revenues rose 24 per cent to $909 million.

According to Twitter, it finally revealed its daily user number to "help ad buyers better understand the potential reach for their advertising".

Total advertising revenue surged 23 percent to $791 million in the fourth quarter, with more than half coming from video ads by corporate clients. $791 million of that figure comes from advertising revenue, split $425 million in the United States compared to $366 internationally - while data licensing making up the other $117 million. Twitter said it would no longer disclose monthly active users, a statistic internet companies have routinely reported over the past decade, and would, instead, provide the number of monetizable daily active users.

Twitter shares sputtered and then fell sharply after the report, dropping as much as eight per cent in pre-market trade.
