The signing of Higuain - an expensive recruit in his 30s - is contrary to Chelsea's usual transfer policy and Sarri has previously acknowledged the need for the striker to swiftly make an impact.

Chelsea are searching for a permanent replacement amid speculation that Eden Hazard is headed to Real Madrid, and may have to splash the cash to find someone suitable.

The 28-year-old was on target twice in Chelsea's 5-0 win over Huddersfield in the Premier League and the weight of the club will be on his shoulders when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad.

An interview was published with Hazard this week in which he said he had made a decision on his future.

Eden Hazard has eased fears amongst Chelsea fans that he might be plotting a Stamford Bridge exit with his most recent comments about the management style of Maurizio Sarri.

While talking about Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, Eden Hazard said: "He's an old man but the way he thinks is the same way I think about football".
