The former AS Monaco full-back originally posted a picture of himself on his Instagram story with the location set at Barcelona, a trip which had been authorised by Manchester City's manager Pep Guardiola.

With Pep Guardiola explaining the complicated nature of his injury at a press conference, he was then asked why Mendy was now in Hong Kong.

"I have to install Instagram on my account to control my players because I don't know, really I don't know".

Mendy responded by saying: 'Every time I am with my phone I am on Instagram or Twitter and [so] now I need to be careful.

Guardiola replied, "Well before, he said "I'm going one day to Paris".OK, but Hong Kong is far away". Guardiola said this was because De Bruyne is still being eased back following injury: "It's quite possible [he might not start]". Yesterday he's in Barcelona. 'He needs to re-adapt.

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has created confusion over his whereabouts by claiming he was in Hong Kong.

"But then you count leagues, Barca, Juventus, Bayern, but I'm pretty sure you understand my answer better".

Pep Guardiola and his team are approaching their Premier League games like cup finals. "I'm pretty sure Real Madrid are happy with me now".
