According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will then move on to work on the previously announced series of "Walking Dead" movies alongside Lincoln.

Danai Gurira is bidding farewell to the AMC show, Variety reports.

Broadcaster AMC has previously confirmed plans to bring back former Walking Dead lead Andrew Lincoln for a movie trilogy focused on his character, Rick Grimes. We love Danai; we love that character.

So far, AMC and representative for Danai have declined to comment on her leaving the show. Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her. "We really want her to stay".

The second half of season 9 of the zombie drama will begin airing on February 10.

What's more, she's set to return as Wakanda general Okoye in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame and is now in the process of adapting the novel Americanah - by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - into a TV miniseries.
