A tiger was recovered from an abandoned home in Houston, Texas, this week after being spotted by a person looking for a place to smoke marijuana, police say.

"There were going to this vacant house to smoke marijuana, and they were greeted by a large tiger", said Sgt. Jason Alderete with the animal cruelty unit.

Crews nicknamed him "Tyson" after a character in the movie "The Hangover".

The garage had been secured with a screwdriver and nylon strap, according to the police.

NBC affiliate KPRC report that police say the man, who was not identified, initially believed he was hallucinating when he found the female tiger in a "rinky-dink" cage. "He could have gone on a rampage in the city - anything could have happened!" Authorities also launched an investigation into who owns the tiger.

It is now being transferred to a sanctuary elsewhere in Texas - although the exact location has not been publicly disclosed.

A tiger was found Monday at an abandoned southeast Houston home, according to police.

"It's big and it's scary", said neighbor Pablo Briagas.

"A pretty small cage inside basically a garage in a house that didn't look like it was in the best shape", Lara Cottingham with the city of Houston told KPRC. "My kids. the neighbor has kids, so, it's scary".

She was friendly, police said, but she was tranquilised for safety reasons as they moved her from the home over to BARC's headquarters. If the owner is ever located, she or he faces stiff fines.
