Turbulence injures 30 on flight from Istanbul to NY

The Boeing 777 had taken off from Istanbul with 326 passengers and 21 crew members.

The flight encountered the turbulence about 45 minutes before landing at JFK at 5:35 p.m. local time (2235 GMT). "I think he was like doing a religious chant".

There was like one or two seconds when it was subtle, but then it really started to pick up.

There was another incident earlier on Sunday when Newark Liberty International Airport was forced to temporarily close its runways after a flight from Montreal to Florida made an emergency landing because of smoke in its cargo hold.
