As anticipated, the idea of expanding the Qatar World Cup from 32 to 48 teams - the other item on the agenda that drew a large continent of worldwide journalists to Miami - was kicked down the road, to use political jargon, until the FIFA Congress in June even though, said Infantino, 90% of the FIFA membership was in favour of adding 16 more finalists.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced on Friday that it is "feasible" to expand the 2022 World Cup, but that any plans to do so will need to be approved by the FIFA Congress in June.

Infantino, who also confirmed a new Club World Cup with 24 teams will begin in 2021 to replace the Confederations Cup, told a press conference: "You have in front of you a happy Federation Internationale de Football Association president".

A vote on the plan to increase the tournament from its 32-team set-up will take place in Paris in June.

Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and United Arab Emirates are all potential options yet rancorous diplomatic disputes has led to the tiny Gulf state being politically isolated from many of its former allies.

It'll look to see which nations could host games.

The letter, viewed by the AP, was signed by top executives from 14 leading European clubs, including ECA head Andrea Agnelli of Juventus.

North Korea mulls suspending denuclearization talks with U.S. , diplomat says
Mr Pompeo said Kim Jong-un had promised US President Donald Trump in Vietnam that testing would not resume. Special Envoy on North Korea Stephen Biegun said the administration was clear and unified in its position.

An announcement on FIFA's website said, "The revamped FIFA Club World Cup will be played during the worldwide match calendar slot that corresponded to the FIFA Confederations Cup".

"[We are] firmly against any potential approval of a revised CWC - no ECA clubs would take part", it said.

"From now on the world will see a real Club World Cup where the best clubs in the world will compete to crown the world champion", said Infantino. Infantino wants Europe to provide eight of the 24 teams, with six coming from South America, three each from Africa, Asia and the Concacaf region and one from Oceania.

The European Club Association and European governing body UEFA does not want FIFA adding competitions prior to agreement on a new global match calendar from 2024.

The obstacles are numerous - adding another 16 teams would require additional matches and venues and according to FIFA's feasibility study would not be possible in Qatar alone. In 2017, India had hosted the Under-17 Men's FIFA World Cup.

It will be the first time VAR has been used at the tournament, having made its debut in the men's World Cup a year ago in Russian Federation. England had defeated Spain 5-2 to lift the U-17 World Cup in the final held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata in front of over 66,000 spectators.

Video assistant referee (VAR) will be used at this year's women's World Cup, Fifa confirmed on Friday.
