Wind advisory, Moreau River flood warning issued Wednesday

The National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Pierce, in Davenport, Iowa, said moderate flooding on Saturday along the MS river was just the beginning of the "dress rehearsal for the main event that's going to happen in early April", given that there is snow in Minnesota and Wisconsin that has yet to melt.

The alert, issued by the Government's flood information service, states: "River levels are rising as a result of the prolonged rainfall on Saturday 16/3/19".

The swollen Missouri threatened a nuclear power plant in southeastern Nebraska.

Several northeast Kansas counties were under a flood watch though Wednesday evening. "Whether it's major (flooding), that remains to be seen, but it does look pretty likely that we'll see at least some more moderate flooding even after this first event is over".

Mark Becker, a spokesman for Nebraska Public Power District, told Newsweek that the nuclear station was operating safely at 100 percent output.

Rescue and evacuation efforts have been continuing in many areas of eastern Nebraska, where a deluge of recent rainwater and snowmelt was sent pouring over frozen ground, overwhelming creeks and rivers.

"The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution around all water bodies", the GRCA said. Wilmot flood co-ordinators are asked to continue to monitor conditions due to the risk of ice jam flooding.

A ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy weather situation as the National Weather Service doesn't anticipate any more rain for a while. There are no immediate reports of any injuries, but homes and trees were damaged and power was knocked out to thousands.

Nebraska has had two flood-related fatalities this week, Wight said. The weather service recorded a 60 miles per hour wind gust at Indianapolis International Airport. Be prepared to take action if flooding develops.
