Ryan Reynolds marks Disney's Fox takeover with Deadpool post

The Disney deal leaves Fox News and Fox Sports in a slimmed down Fox Corporation spin-off that began trading on Tuesday (US time).

Walt Disney Co.'s $71.3 billion acquisition of most of of 21st Century Fox's film and television holdings will be finalized Wednesday at 12:02 a.m., the Murdoch-run 21st Century Fox revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

21st Century Fox was created in 2013.

Jacques Nasser was previously named to the board, along with both Murdochs.

Fox Corp has not revealed how much board members at Fox Corp will be paid, but SEC filings show members of 21st Century's board earned about US$300,000 in cash and equity a year.

With the acquisition, Disney now has a huge amount of content and intellectual property, including "X-Men", "Avatar", and "Deadpool".

Disney won a bidding war in 2018 against cable giant Comcast to acquire the assets.

As has been previously reported, the so-called "New Fox" is focused on the news and sports aspects of the old company's business.

The X-Men and Fantastic Four will officially be back at Marvel and a part of Disney as of midnight tonight, Fox Studios confirms in a press release. "With a growing number of viewers watching scripted dramas and comedies on a delayed basis, Fox is seeking to have more commercials that reach consumers with greater immediacy", according to James' report.

Al Jean from The Simpsons shared this picture from Matt Groening as the deal closed today. The earliest talks between Bob Iger (Disney) and Rupert Murdoch (Fox) is rumored to have taken place in early 2017.

Disney, which is launching a streaming service to compete with Netflix, will now own the 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight movie studios, as well as the FX and National Geographic channels.

Ryan, R-Wis., who retired from Congress a year ago citing his desire to spend more time with his family, was named to the board Tuesday.
