The new speculation comes after Biden and Abrams had a private sit-down earlier this month, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"It's no surprise in blue NY that Democrats are eager to send President Donald Trump packing in 2020", said Mary Snow, polling analyst for the Quinnipiac University Poll. After referring to himself as part of the field of presidential hopefuls, he corrected himself, saying instead that he could run. In the latest CNN poll of voters who say they will likely vote in the Democratic primary, Biden leads with 28 percent, compared to Sanders at 20 percent.

Former vice president Joe Biden may - according to some - be trying to shed an "old, white guy" image by having Stacey Abrams as his 2020 presidential running mate. He ran for president of the United States in 1988 and 2008, but withdrew early from both races.

Mr. Biden has expressed concern to these people that he wouldn't be able to raise millions of dollars in online donations immediately the way some other Democratic candidates have, including former Rep. Beto O'Rourke of Texas and Sen.

Biden's advisers are considering the idea of pledging to pick former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, who lost the close 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election to Brian Kemp, as his running mate upon launching his campaign, Axios reports.

First, it could be risky in the debates, as Biden might be asked why consideration of other Democrats - namely, those he's running against for the presidential nomination - wasn't appropriate. The outlet said Team Biden isn't going all-in on picking the rising progressive star just yet, worrying that the move could be received as a "gimmick" and open the former Vice President up to a new line of attacks.

While the former vice president has reportedly discussed naming a running mate early, it's not known if he's signed off on the suggestion of coming out of the gate with a pledge to name a number two on his ticket. Recent polls have shown him at the top of the field of potential Democratic candidates.

According to Axios' reporting, Biden's choice on the matter wasn't decided at this time.
