The Rolling Stones' US tour is likely to take place in July, following news that Mick Jagger had to postpone 17 dates due to ill health.

The band announced on Saturday that the North American leg of its No Filter tour would be put on hold pending "medical treatment" for lead vocalist Jagger.

The North American tour had been scheduled to run from April 20 until June 29.

"The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible", a representative for the band told Rolling Stone magazine.

Jagger himself tweeted: "I'm so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets".

He said, "I hate letting our fans down and I'm hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour but am looking forward to getting back on stage as soon as I can." - BANG! "Once again, huge apologies to everyone".

An insider told The Sun newspaper, "Mick will be undergoing a non-invasive heart valve procedure".

Oz said the other valve which also frequently requires surgery is the mitral value, which is further into the heart.

They added that Mick hopes to be out of hospital within 48 hours this weekend, and will be back on stage by this summer.

This story was first published on CNN.com "Mick Jagger's having his heart valve replaced". This can disrupt the blood flow through the heart to the body. It will allow blood to leak backwards. "Or valves can get really leaky, and that means the heart then has to work a little bit extra to get the blood to go in the right direction". New York Post's Page Six website, citing unidentified sources, said the surgery would involve placing a stent in the singer's heart. According to the Drudge Report, the procedure will take place on Friday in NY. "The most common types of replacement valves are mechanical (artificial) valves or tissue (animal) valves".
