"With Amazon in the lead and Microsoft seeking to catch up, Google is a late mover in Korea's cloud business industry", said an industry watcher, who asked to remain anonymous.

Google Cloud director of product management Sudhir Hasbe says, "We are very excited about Qubole partnering with us to process big data on Apache Spark and Hadoop".

Users will be able to manage all their datasets and data pipelines from a single management console.

The first priority area of focus is to help clients enable multi-channel customer interactions and improve access to self-service and issue resolution capabilities, while decreasing the cost to service each customer. Anthos is based on the Cloud Services Platform that Google announced a year ago and its hybrid functionality generally available both on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and in the data centre with GKE On-Prem. Pricing for a Cloud Data Fusion instance starts at $1.80 per hour.

Google Cloud also announced the beta release of its new "connected sheets" functionality in Google Sheets, its spreadsheet offering. "It works with the full dataset from BigQuery, whether that's millions or even billions of rows of data. It also means you don't need to learn SQL - you're simply using regular Sheets functionality, including formulas, pivot tables, and charts, to do the analysis".

Google is also enabling deep neural networks developed with Tensorflow to be built and executed directly inside BigQuery ML, the company announced. Like its industry competitors AWS and Microsoft Azure, GCP provides a slew of cloud-based tools for AI and machine learning. This year, it's adding more advanced ML capabilities, including support for Tensorflow neural nets, K-means clustering, and matrix factorization.

Born out of the partnership between Google and Robin.io that entails engineering to engineering collaboration to design standardized APIs for running data-centric workloads in Google Kubernetes Engine, ROBIN Storage is the preferred storage for enterprise workloads on GKE.
