Boston Bruins Even Series With Leafs, Lose Jake DeBrusk to Dirty Hit

The Bruins cut Toronto's lead to 3-2 when forward Charlie Coyle scored on the power play with 38 seconds left before the second intermission, but the Leafs had the lead entering the third, and they outshot Boston 16-11 to underscore their successes in the period.

Andreas Johnsson, also with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Moore provided the rest of the offense for Toronto.

Toronto got on top of Boston's defence in Game 1 with its speed. Boston has scored five goals and allowed five. Tuukka Rask stopped 31 shots for visitors in front of a crowd of 19,611 at Scotiabank Arena.

It was night and day from Game 2 in Boston, when the Bruins bullied their way to a 4-1 victory. The B's turned that power play into a goal and happily obliged to the Leafs' undisciplined play, tying the series at one with their own 4-1 victory.

The suspension, which was announced about an hour before Toronto's 3-2 win over Boston on Monday, followed Kadri's cross-check of Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk late in Game 2 Saturday, an apparent retaliation for DeBrusk's hit on Patrick Marleau. "You've got to stay with it and find your game". That means the league has the option to suspend him for more than five games. As Kadri exited the penalty box and attempted to rejoin play, DeBrusk appeared to try to lay a body check on the Leafs' center but instead hit him knee-on-knee.

Not only does Kadri have an extensive track record of incidents that have risen to the level of supplemental discipline, resulting in several suspensions, but this is the second year in a row he has taken himself out of a playoff series for an extended period of time due to his own recklessness and selfishness.

The Bruins beat Toronto in Game 2 to even up their best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

"It's disappointing for Naz, it's disappointing for our team", Babcock said.

Is Nazem Kadri the Next Tom Wilson?
The NHL has offered Kadri an in-person hearing with the department of player safety , which may indicate a lengthy suspension. Pastrnak promptly fed a no-look-behind-the-back pass to Marchand, who slid a shot between Andersen's pads.

Kadri received a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct. He's been held pointless in two contests so far. However, a player that could receive six or more games is offered an in-person hearing with the DPOS.

That session is set for Monday in NY, just hours before the Leafs and Bruins are scheduled to renew hostilities in Game 3 at Scotiabank Arena. Scoring their lone goal in the game two loss was Nazem Kadri, which was his 1'7th of the year.

Barely a year ago, the centre sat out three games of the Leafs' series against Boston after charging into an already down Tommy Wingels.

The Leafs knew the Bruins wouldn't wave any white flags in the third, but Toronto gave as good as they got - and when it came down to brass tacks, Andersen was superb, keeping the Bruins off the scoresheet in the final frame.

"That first 10 minutes, they were physical, tried to make a statement", Leafs centre Auston Matthews said.

Mar 13, 2015 Missed 3 games (disciplinary). Partly for his ranking, but mostly for his ability to do one thing he severely understated when asked about the role he plays on the Leafs man advantage.

If Babcock can trust Kadri - who is under contract through the 2021-22 season with an annual average salary of $4.5-million United States - we aren't sure how.
