FBI Says Suspect is 'Infatuated' with Columbine

Almost 20 school districts in the greater Denver area will be closed Wednesday due to security concerns just days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

After-school activities and sports practices would also continue as scheduled - except at Columbine, where they're canceled for the day, the school said.

"If we found her tonight, we will certainly hold her for as long as we can legally", Phillips said.

All of the students are safe, the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said on Facebook.

USA authorities are looking for a young woman who is "infatuated" with the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School and made threats just days before the 20th anniversary of the attack that killed 13 people.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation say Pais travelled to Colorado from Miami on Monday night and bought a pump-action shotgun and ammunition.

She is described as 5-foot-5 inches tall, with brown hair.

She was last spotted wearing camouflage trousers, a black t-shirt and black boots, in the foothills of Jefferson County, the sheriff's office said.

Pais was last seen in the Jefferson County foothills and is considered extremely unsafe.

Jenny Fulton, another sheriff's spokesperson, said the FBI was investigating the apparent threat. Students were later released from class as normal, according to Jefferson County Public Schools.

Schools districts across the Denver metro area were placed on lockout after the threats; the Post reported that over 20 schools were affected. "More details to come #JeffCo".

Jefferson County Sheriff's Department tweeted about the lockdown mid-afternoon Tuesday.

The undisclosed threats led Columbine and several other high schools outside Denver to lock their doors for almost three hours. "We want our schools to be a safe place for kids to learn".

Sheriff's spokesman Mike Taplin said the threats she made were general, not specific to any school.

Investigators say a woman who made undisclosed threats that led to tightened security at Columbine High School bought a pump-action shotgun and ammunition shortly after landing in Denver from Miami.

The alert came four days before the 20th anniversary of the Columbine tragedy, in which two heavily armed teen boys stormed their high school in Littleton, a Denver suburb, and fatally shot 12 classmates and a teacher before committing suicide. That list included Columbine, the site of a horrific massacre on April 20, 1999.
