Business leaders say scrap HS2 ‘grand folly’

The director general of influential business group the Institute of Directors has called on the UK government to scrap the HS2 high-speed rail project – calling a “grand folly”.
Simon Walker was speaking after IoD research suggested that UK businesses are not convinced by the economic case for HS2.
A survey of IoD members found that just 27% feel the massive infrastructure project represents good value for money and 70% say the scheme will have no impact on the productivity of their business.
